Our Mission

Advancing Utility Regulation Across Africa

AFUR was founded in November 2002 under the NEPAD framework as a pan-African regulatory institution. With 40 member countries and regulators from six utility sectors, we facilitate the harmonisation of regulatory policies, the exchange of best practices, and capacity building in support of Africa's socio-economic development.

"To facilitate the development of effective utility regulation in support of Africa's infrastructure development."

🌱 Our Commitment

Regulating for Africa's Energy Transition

As global industries commit to Net Zero targets by 2050, Africa's utility regulators hold a unique responsibility: building the regulatory frameworks that enable clean energy investment, protect consumers, and ensure no community is left behind in the energy transition.

AFUR is leading this effort — developing tariff tools for off-grid energy, harmonising regulatory standards across 32 African countries, and equipping regulators with the frameworks to accelerate electrification while advancing climate resilience.
