Enhancing Cybersecurity Through Energy Regulation

With support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and Power Africa, the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) is seeking experienced volunteers to support a webinar on enhancing cybersecurity through energy regulation for members of the African Forum for Utility Regulators (AFUR). This is the third in a series of four webinars designed to further AFUR’s mission to facilitate the development of effective utility regulation in support of Africa’s infrastructure development.

Cybersecurity is becoming an ever-greater necessity for utilities and regulators as disruptive technologies become increasingly accessible to malicious actors, from hostile governments to individuals. In this quickly evolving space, regulators will play a key role in mitigating and responding to cybersecurity threats. This webinar will run for two to three hours with time for questions and discussion. Illustrative presentation topics include:

  • Understanding cybersecurity preparedness
  • Cyber incident response and recovery best practices
  • Incident Response and Recovery (IRR) Plans
  • Facilitated discussion on mitigating emerging cybersecurity threats in sub-Saharan Africa’s energy sector
